Group News 2015
Happy New Year to you all! It was great to welcome everyone back to Scouting this week with an all Sections birthday party at Hollywood Bowl.
We celebrated 5th Tyldesley's 44th birthday in style with several strikes & spares, plenty of laughter and LOTS of burgers, chips & juice. We sang loudly to wish 5th a happy birthday before sharing the massive birthday cakes.
Some pictures of our celebrations can be found here.
Happy New Year & Happy Birthday 5th!
Beavers' Snakes & Ladders Fun
Following the Colony competitions a couple of weeks ago the 6 highest scoring Beavers represented 5th Tyldesley at the Lilford District Snakes & Ladders Competition on Sunday 8th February. They did their Leaders proud with their excellent behaviour and sportsmanship. They all played well and were delighted to come 2nd place out of the 8 teams taking part! Well done to all those who took part.
Beavers' Health & Fitness Sleepover
The Hut was uncharacteristically noisy on Saturday 31st January and Sunday 1st February when over two thirds of our Beaver Colony took part in a Health & Fitness Sleepover.
There were lots of fun games to be played along with loads of activities to help the Beavers learn the value of keeping fit, eating healthily and taking care of themselves with good personal hygiene. The Beaver Scouts who attended all earnt their Health & Fitness and Healthy Eating Activity Badges along with gaining another Night Away badge.
Pictures of our exciting weekend will be here soon.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Race Night on Saturday - it was great to have so many people there to support the Group.
The night was a lot of fun with plenty of laughter and cheering for the horses. We will let you know the total raised once the final count is in.
Roll up for Race Night
The Leaders at 5th work hard to produce a fun and exciting Programme for their Sections each week.
You can check out the pictures of what each Section has been up to by visiting our Gallery.
Coming soon to the Gallery will be photos of the Beavers' Farm to Fork Trail at Tesco Leigh as well as the Cubs' archery and rifle shooting experiences.
Busy times at 5th
Thank you to all our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who attended the St George's Day Service on Sunday 26th April. This is a very special service as because St George is the Patron Saint of Scouting all members of the Movement renew their Promise together at this event. Leaders from all Sections were very proud of the children's behaviour throughout - well done everyone!

Jamboree On The Trail
Beavers blast off to Jodrell Bank
Saturday 9th May was JOTT (Jamboree On The Trail) where Scouters of all ages all around the world take part in a walk of their choice appropriate for their age. 5th Tyldesley Beavers walked with the Cubs from the Scout Hut to Lilford Park where everyone enjoyed a drink, biscuit and some time in the play area. After the Beavers had been collected the Cubs began their trek back to the Scout Hut.
The Scout Troop joined up with Spartan Explorer Scout Unit and took part in an incident hike on Rivington.
A great day was had by all and everyone who took part earned a special JOTT 2015 badge for their camp blanket.

On Sunday 10th May 5th Tyldesley Beavers joined up with other Colonies from across Lilford District and travelled to Jodrell Bank, Cheshire for a Space themed, fun-packed day out.
An interactive orrery helped everyone learn about the solar system, the sizes of the planets and their order and orbits. There was an inflatable planetarium which taught about the night sky, star constellations and let us 'visit' different planets after which we spent time in the classroom doing space related activities to help us remember what we'd learnt. There was a Space Pavillion to explore with lots of interactive learning experiences which helped us to understand how the telescope worked. Last of all we took a walk down the Telescope Path to have a close up look at the giant Lovell Telescope which makes Jodrell Bank so famous, then we returned to the coach via the Planet Path all a little tired but exhilarated from our day earning our Space Activity badge.

Ashworth Valley was the venue for this year's Group Camp. 7pm on Friday evening saw Beavers, Cubs and Scouts descend upon the site, all proudly wearing their 5th Tyldesley neckerchief and so began a weekend of non-stop fun and activity.
The Sections took part in a variety of age appropriate activities, which included grass sledging, pedal cars, climbing, archery and rifle shooting as well as activities organised by the leaders. On Saturday night everyone took part in the campfire; singing songs with silly actions as a whole Group.
Both days were action packed with lots of laughter and enjoyment. Click here to see some of our pictures from the weekend.
Group Camp
5th - 7th June 2015
Thank you to all the Beavers, Cubs & Scouts who came along to the bag pack at Tesco Leigh on Saturday 20th June. The young people did themselves and their Leaders proud being very sensible and polite. The customers obviously thought they were exceptional too as we raised a fantastic £607.95! Thanks again everyone for your efforts.

Fabulous Family Camp 2015!
Our Leaders would like to thank all the families who attended family camp for their parts in a fabulous weekend.
Our campers visited Hawkhirst Scout Activity Centre in Keilder Water for this year's Family Camp - a new site for our group. Unfortunately there were rather a lot of midge flies which were irritating, however we didn't let it spoil our fun. The days were action packed with us taking part in a whole host of activities including:
bell boating
night line
low ropes
adventure course
team building
fire lighting
toasting marshmallows
paddling
backwoods cooking
camp fire songs
....and much more.
Pictures will be added here over the next few days (there are quite a lot so it will take some time).
We are sailing...
On Sunday 20th September our Beaver Scouts took to the water on Lower Rivington Reservoir to complete the new Sailing Stage 1 badge. A brilliant time was had by all as they learnt all about sailign, the parts of a boat, how to steer and manage the sail. They all got to try out their new skills on the water taking part in races and generally enjoying themselves. Thank you to those parents who took part as well. Pictures of our adventures can be seen here.
Sleeping with the fishes...
At 3pm on Saturday 3rd October 32 excited Beaver Scouts and their leaders from 5th Tyldesley boarded a coach bound for Hull to spend the night at The Deep Aquarium with 60 other Beavers and their leaders from Lilford District.
When we arrived we had a lovely tea before starting our adventure round the aquarium. Everyone had an amazing time learning about all the different types of fish and seeing them swimming in the massive tanks. We saw lots of sharks, sting rays, jellyfish, a swordfish and even penguins as well as a grumpy fish which gets potato spots when he's happy! We got to touch a starfish and a sea anemone but we had to be very gentle.
When it was bed time we all laid out of sleeping bags next to the biggest tank and drifted off to sleep (eventually) whilst watching the sharks, fish and stingray glide by.
Pictures of our adventures will be added here soon.
Remembrance Parade
Sunday 8th November 2015
Thank you to all the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who attended Remembrance Parade. It was great to see so many of our young people and their families turn out even when the weather wasn't looking perfect, to pay their respects to those who fight for our country and to those who gave their lives in those battles. The young people all looked very smart and behaved impeccably. Well done everyone, your Leaders are immensley proud of you all.
Roll up for race night!
Thank you to everyone who attended Race Night in October. It was a good night with lots of cheering and laughter along with some lovely half time curry. Thank you to the Parents' Committee for organising this event. We will let you know the amount raised once we have the total.
District Competitions
As always, 5th Tyldesley enjoy supporting the Lilford District events. Recently both the Beavers and Cubs have attended District compeitions.
The Beavers took part in the District Cooking Comp on 22nd November. The whole Colony helped prepare for the event at which their representative team of 6 Beavers had to cook a 3 course meal for a judging panel with minimal Leader assistance. They were very proud to come 3rd - well done Beavers!
The same weekend our Cubs entered 2 teams into the 5-a-side football competition for Lilford District Cubs. Tuesday Cubs came joint 5th and Wednesday Cubs finished 3rd. They all played very well, had fun and tried their best. BRAVO Cubs!
